Dosage Form Technology
Through our dosage form technologies we create convenient, patient-friendly dosage forms, such as orally disintegrating tablet formulations, liquid suspensions and sprinkles.
We are able to apply our Microcaps® taste-masking technology to all of these dosage forms.
A pharmaceutical product's effectiveness can be adversely impacted by patient non-compliance with a prescribed dosing regimen. In fact, it is estimated that more than 50 percent of patients do not comply with dosing instructions primarily due to:
- Poor taste – Taste is a critical property of orally administered dosage forms as poor taste can negate the benefits of convenient dosing forms such as liquids or chewable tablets.
- Difficulty in administration – Oral administration of medium to large sized capsules or tablets can be difficult for certain patient populations such as geriatrics and pediatrics. In fact, approximately 40 percent of all patients have difficulty swallowing their medication.
- General inconvenience – Patients are more likely to comply with dosing regimens if they are given convenient dosage forms that can be taken on the go.
Overcoming these problems can make drugs more convenient to take, thus potentially increasing patient compliance and improving the efficacy of a treatment. We have extensive experience in taste-masking of drugs and has developed a range of technologies for taste-masking and for the development of convenient dosage forms. Our technologies have been successfully applied to create a number of market leading and patient friendly products.
