Pulsatile Release
Many therapeutic agents are most effective when delivered at a constant rate at or near the desired absorption site. However, there are instances where maintaining a constant blood plasma level of drug does not offer optimal therapy.

A pulsatile release system involves the release of drug in pulses that are separated by defined time intervals. This type of profile can be beneficial for example, when the treatment target varies in expression or severity with a circadian rhythm, such as acid reflux or excessive sleepiness.
